I'm jealous

I was at toysRus the other day to buy a tri-cycle for my 1.5 yr old nephew. Oh my God, there were zillions of models that my head started spinning immediately :) I never thought buying a simple toy would be this tough. I still haven't made up my mind, would be going again :)

not just tri-cycles, any toy has a rack full of models to choose from. and in most cases, it was the first time I even knew such toys exist :) today's kids are really fortunate......wish I was born now :)

still I play with all the toys my nephew has, whenever I visit him. for some reason he is always possessive about his toys :)

aren't these kids loosing out on more outdoor games like we used to...esp..thirutu maanga...kaaka kadi etc., I think there will always be "jealousy"....may be our fathers thought we are enjoying n would have felt jealous...BTW, i too feel jealous when I go apparels or footwear shop to buy something for kids...so many varities....when I was a kid, there was no two option other than a trouser that too stichted by some poor gentleman sitting with his lone machine...

I know that feeling, even I feel jealous when I have to take my younger cousins to a toy shop. The problem with these shops is that once you enter them you get confused. But I guess more than toys, it is a good book shop which drives me crazy.

I had once been to kemp fort when i was in blore, to get toys for my nephew...They have this whole big floor flooded with all sorts of toys...
But, gosh they are so expensive..I loved one of those dolls there, I checked out the price, so that I could buy one for myself. Mind blowing price and I decided to opt out..and luckily for me, I saw the same stuff once when i was roaming in Commercial street and got the same doll for 125 bucks...Cheap deal..
Toys these days are getting more n more sophisticated..but years back, kids used to play with "Choppu saaman" (the kitchen house set..)..these days' girls play with barbie's advanced kitchen collection..:) Changing times!

Yea, thats true. The current day kids are spoilt for choice.

But if you look closely at the games the kids play when they get together, would be something similar to what we played when we were young. Only thing would be that we would have used crude toys while these kids use the sophisticated ones!!!

i know! the ToysRus is just damn good! what a lot of soft toys and cute stuff!! and my singaporean friends go about like :"Wallah, just $35 ...i wanna buy leh!!!" and i'd rather stay behind, touch it for a little while and enjoy it! as though this ain't enough, there are those huge tubs with egg shaped things which drop out when you insert a $1 coin. Open the egg like thingy and whoa! you've got a cute doll in there! this is again like our Rs. 2 or 3 bommai and people here go Oh, so cheap! ayyo, enna vittudungappa!

Toys are also getting intelligent. The other day a friend was telling me that his friends wife works for Mattel where her job is to design "intelligent" playthings for kids. When he outlined the amount of research and studies that go into the making of a toy that we see in ToysRUs or any other toy vendor, it was mindboggling.
There is a science to everything, and this is no exception.

PVS, welcome here. thats true, kids are generally predicatble. I wish same were true with adults as well :)

Chakra, I haven't read it, will do so immly :)

vani, somehow they want ur money. they mght even offer toys for less than a dollar. be careful :)

Ranga, they spend millions on this research alone. reason being that the kids' thinking can be affected by the dolls they play with.
But how the hell do they permit all those gory video games, beats me man.

Dunno. Not really jealous, because I end up playing with them anyway!!! So that leaves me very little to be jealous about. The first place I head for is the playzone and play with the kids until someone reminds me that "We came here for something else. Grow up!" :-(
Kids? Predictable? Not till they are a few years old. Till then they are ... forget it!! :-))
Funny route I took to your blog. I think I saw you on Renuka's blog and then again on Kichami's blog. Decided to join in on the commenting...
