what kind of profession is engineering? the rewards for our hard work is hardly impressive. I mean, compare us against investment bankers/lawyers/sports analysts/doctors/ ...... we make nothing!
My friend was telling me that the best way to earn a lot of money in the US is to write a book. yeah, if you can get a stellar media coverage. I'm sure Amber Frey is gonna make some millions by writing a book on her "turmoils" with Scott Peterson. and look at Martha Stewart, she is probably writing a book on "prison cuisine" right now. there will be some million fools who would buy that too. she is gonna come out smelling as a rose after spending time in jail for fraud :)

What you say is absolutely true.Engineers we work like dogs and get peanuts..
But if you lookin for extensive meida coverage ..i wud say just change ur profession..Engg is not at all glamorous but if theres something else lemme know too :)
best way to get rich is to print currency notes..
but the safest way is to join politics... no one wd bother abt u and u needn't bother abt anyone..

Well, for starters, engineers are paid a lot.
The rest mentioned who make more money that engineers have at some point put in more effort than us, engineers. If you consider that a cop in US makes 40K a yr, we make a lot.
If you need a short cut to money, well, you gotta become a celebrity. Any publicity is good publicity and I am sure you are intteligent enough to find your niche there :)

Ranga, cops make way more than us. My roommate (also my landlord) is a cop. he make 90K plus a yr. and he is only 30 and still an entry level uniformed officer. his base salary is lesser than mine, but he gets super overtime and their retirememnt benefits are out of the world.

Hey Archana, so finally got you. Actually I met your parents last november, at Ranga's (http://thelastblogger.blogspot.com) wedding reception. they told me you were settled in the US, somehow it got registered as texas in my mind :)

Engineering is a noble a profession, which created the comforts and neccesities of today and will create the wonders of tomorrow. you are comparing apples and oranges. Doctors/lawyers/Investment bankers start their professions after a minimum of graduate school followed by some sort of apprenticeship. Not everyone business graduate ends up being a investment banker, only cream of the top universities probably gets paid this hefty salary. Think of the risk involved in those professions. Those professions are all real time with zero fault tolerance. Engineer can afford to make zillions of mistakes and yet still release the product. Proof: Microsoft. Edison failed 999 times before inventing a light bulb.
Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page are richer than Martha stewart. There will be more people around the world who are interested in knowing what Bill gates writes in his book than Amber Frey.
