cricket and all rubbish

its high time that we change the way cricket is played. I've been telling this for a long time ... start promoing professional clubs rather than having national teams. having a single team for the entire nation just spoils other sports. recently I read Kutraleeswaran's (remember?) interview in Hindu. poor chap, had to ditch his pro-swimming career due to lack of sponsorship and support. he ended up doing a masters in the US, and now employed in Intel, Sacramento. really sad to lose a prodigy like him. and I would blame most of it on cricket.

it hurts when people question as to how come a nation of more than a billion cannot win even a single gold in the olympics. I don't know, does vision 2020 has anything on sports? if not we should add it as well.

Well said Paran, India, atleast the state infact lost a soccer prodigy like me solely based on certain uncertainties which I had to consider.

But then I wouldn't direct the entire blame on cricket, what can the game do after all, its trying to sell itself to the masses. We have ourselves to blame.... and the one big reason I believe people are crazy about it, it doesn't require too much effort on your physique compared to other ones like soccer or basketball....

Sometime in the month of Jan or Feb, someone in India conducted Hockey tournaments in a nice way.. Teams were titled "Chennai Veerans", "Maratha Warriors" etc etc.. Each of the teams even had 1 or 2 players who are in the current National Hockey Team.

The event was well organised, well publicised... I was following that up with interest as i wanted to see the response of the ppl.. Though it was conducted at very good venues, the turnout was very very poor... I doubt whether it wd happen again... All this despite the fact that the games were held in the evenings and consumes a fraction of time than cricket.

What to say... we hav ourselves to blame.

FOr such a thing to happen, the whole adminstration must be disolved and start from afresh. But again, we are back in square A. Who would the committee be?. Very conveniently, the nation has north, south, east, west and central zones. And each zone favors their state players.

The problem does not lie in the game. Its the way we are.

Yes, it is very sad that we are only able to win a goldmedal once in 20 years, and silver once in 10 years.

Vision 2020.. i dont't know for sure if it has an agenda for sports..
