pongal vadai for breakfast :)

though I didn't eat a lot this time, I still managed to have a good breakfast everyday (unlike the usual cup of milk I have here). inspite of the growing coffee shops and other western eat-outs, Annapoorna in coimbatore still commands the same respect. anytime of the day it was jam packed and I had to wait for a table :) but it was definitely worth it for their stuff is heavenly :)

I'm still in the India mood and yesterday morning I was just thinking of stopping by a nearest annapoorna for a pongal and vadai for breakfast. only moments later I relaised that the nearest one is atleast 10000 miles away :)

Wouldn't Annapoorna follow the HSB way & open branches in US?

Though I know abt Annapoorna and have eaten there quite a few times, I do not know abt their background or whether or not they have branches outside of India (CBE).

jagan, manasu varadhu kashtam dhaan :)

chakra, annapoorna is primarily a cbe based hotel chain. they opened one in madras, but was a big flop. it started out as a small idly shop a few decades back :)

gayathri, sure I would, if I get a chance.

Ram, ennatha solla :)

adengappa, I hate those bagels. adha kadikkarathukulla pallu poidum.

"its me" -- thaangal yaaro :)

ioiio, vadai is actually pretty easy to make. u need a good mixie :)

narayanan, thanks :)

hari, vayathu erichala kalappatha da.

krish, yedho idly vadai kadaikkaradhey, sandosha padunga :)

prabha, annapoorna is way better than saravana bhaan. there is a reason why it is a big success story in coimbatore. saravana bhavan never even bothered to open a branch cbe :)

sarnyan is right saravana bhavan is nowhere near.Plus nowadays SBhavan has bcome extremely costly.
annaporna sambhar is impossible to match.
I also miss it here in chennai. It is so near yet so far

Prabha
Saravana Bhavan is for people who cannot get the food of Annapoorna.

Nothing to beat the Sambhar from annapoorna. Its just the best. As a local from Coimbatore, I can certify to its greatness. The vadai-sambhar and roast are about the best anywhere in the world. :)
