hitting the saturation point

well guys I have hit a saturation point and finding it difficult to come out of this :( my daily activities have become so routine that I find it no more interesting. nothing really bad or dangerous but just that I'm finding everything boring. the only thing that I still passionately follow is the NBA playoffs, which also will end in a few weeks.

does this happen with a lot of you guys as well. when we do the same thing every single day, at some point we hit a wall and things seem to just stand still. this happens at the gym too, when the same set of exercises stop producing those expected results. its easier over there, to change the workout sets, but much harder in life.

I think its time to pick up new things :)

For me Blogging has brought a new pastime and a new way of thinking.

But I have to agree with you.

Are you married? Do you have children?

I have 2 kids and my wife. Actually life is really on a strict schedule..!! and sometimes it gets boring. That's when I leave my kids with some good friends and go to Pepper Belly, which is a great comedy club in Fairfield.

I used to feel just like you wheneve the NBA / NFL season ended.. I am not a big baseball fan.!

Dude, its time for you to get married! That'll bring in a new routine, new problems and new activities for a while... and you will get bored of that in a few years, and then you can have kids! As the kids move through different phases of growth, you will have more new problems... So dun worry, there's enough ahead to keep you entertained, juz get married.

i am in the same situation as you are(or even worse). atleast you blog. all of sudden i ran out things to do and am bored to the worst way you can imagine.

these days i am hitting the bed at 9:00 PM so that i can reduce the number of hours i am awake. i run into a problem again - waking up at 4:30 am. right now, working on the number of hours I sleep so that i am awake as less as possible.

simple things like re-arranging your room could help. What helped me is roller-blades. I agree with the new language idea also.

try thinking the British Airways way ... “When was the last time you did something for the first time?” I am sure something would dawn on you!

Time for a holiday? Time to sit at home and do nothing? Think about nothing? Just be lazy to break the routine... Pamper yourself.

The activities you take up would eventually end up in the 'routine timetable' too. It's time to chill :)

Looks like you are ready for a real change of scenery.

Maybe you should start visiting independent bookstores in your metropolitan area. Some of the books they carry are so quaint, so old, so unique that you will be lost in it for quite a while.

Also, maybe you can research Amazon for books you like, then visit either Borders or Barnes & Noble, get yourself a latte, grab the book and sit there and read it. That way you are out of the house and feel like you have things to do...

Basic suggestion. Get into more activites. Find out what your interests are and pursue them.

you like to dance? Take salsa or waltz or tango classes. Musical instruments? you like to read books? then join a reading club. also play sports, keeps you fit and helps you while away time.

I was bored as hell after I moved to Raleigh initially. New city, no friends etc. Now I do salsa dance, play conga drums, play soccer and DJ music in clubs.

whatever you do, do not do the same bored routine and also do not while away time by sleeping more(my humble advice to hellboy as well). Life is short, try relishing each moment in a fun way. I know ... funny to hear this from me especially after you had seen me sleeping forever in the hostel during undergrad, but better late than never right?

Welcome to the club!

As everyone here says, try something new.. once my frnd bought a second hand bicycle and cycled for an hour daily.. that really helped. apart from a gud physical exercise, that gave him the chance to look around lots of new places in the neighbourhood.

Good point. Not sure how I can answer this. I have felt this too, a few times and somehow got out of the drudgery by doing something new. It was spanish and dance once, oil painting once, nature photography once and so on. Nowadays baseball keeps me more than occupied, and this is after the time taken by work and wife.

And yes, its time to get married :)

I started blogging and felt happy as I made new friends and was interacting with a lot of you guys. but that has also become a routine more or less.

as a break, I'm attening an all day seminar far from home this wednesday. hopefully that keeps me away from the boredom.

This might be the nth time I am suggesting console gaming to you. Its very addictive. Completely sucks your time (sometimes a bit too much) and is definitely a whole lot of fun. And no, its not expensive. A Ps2 with 3 addictive games should be no more than 250 and that means weeks of non-stop entertainment.

Gaming console is addictive... It will kill you... Don't buy it... If you buy it, you won't even have time to go to work

Hey whos that bugger talking about PS2?! Dont buy that, Xbox rules! :-)

I just think you should take a vacation, nothing else.

For a while I have been wanting to do white water rafting or kayaking, so I might try it out soon! :-)

Saranyan, I have a suggestion:

Go to the nearest beach and start counting the number of sands (just allot yourself one hour, no more, no less). Go back the next day and do it religiously for a week. Your boredom will simply fly thru the window.

For those of you thinking I am kidding, think again - this is as close to Zen Buddhism as possible where the mind is numbed to overcome the boredom barrier and that is when creativity really starts to bloom (don't ask me if I have done it though :-))
