its about time

I was really glad to see that JetBlue is gonna offer services out of the Burbank airport. JetBlue is a low cost airline, and Burbank airport is very close from my place. technically LA airport isn't that far, but with the ever increasing LA traffic, its atleast a 3 hr drive from my place.

news is that JetBlue would be offering a $99 one way trip to NY from Burbank. thats really cheap, compared to what American and Delta charges. its high time these major airlines take a leaf out of the business model of low-cost airlines like southwest and jetblue. even after slashing prices a bit, these major airlines are still struggling. some of them are on the verge of bankruptcy. instead of selecting a good route and cutting on the unnecessary management, these airlines simply took out the meal service, put forth a useless customer service (sometimes irritating too). and reduced the prices only a bit, just to claim that they are competitive. well, time to rethink guys.

In India, Air Deccan is doing the good work :)

I've heard good comments about Jet Blue. You are lucky they are flying out of Burbank.

I am not sure why they stopped flying to the bay area ( I was searching for flights to Atlanta)..and couldn't find them.

I have flown JetBlue in the past. Typical low cost airline, but hey, most others offer pretty much the same services, or lack of there of.

But 200 bucks for a CA trip from North East is good news.

narayanan, they operate from Oakland. but I'm not sure if they fly to Atlanta though.

Sowmya, that discount is not needed, when the fares are already cheap. boarding in these airlines is usually open as well, no seats are pre-assigned.... its first come first seated basis.

Jagan, that I guess could only be a minor incident. but the bottom line is that people are changing their opinions on air-travel and thats a welcome change :)

Ranga, on-board services may be the same. but when it comes to ticketing effieciency and customer care, major airlines are nowhere.
and yeah, a $200 roundtrip for a coast to coast trip is defly a good news :)

If you noticed, Southwest, JetBlue, and Air Deccan are new players on the field. For some reason thats totally beyond me, the established players in the airline industry find it difficult to deal with changes in the ground-realities. Maybe its their pilot/work-force unions (United, American, Delta, America West anyone?), maybe its their ostrich mentality of hiding from reality (Air France, Swiss Air, Sabena). Whatever it maybe, these new players with their newer ideas, and a relatively flexible workforce are giving us, the consumers, fresher alternatives.

On the flip side though, America West seems to have righted their ship, and are offering competitive fares out of Phoenix. Esp to cities that Southwest/JetBlue do not serve.

I have flown about a dozen times since I came to US and just once in Southwest. I am not sure I would want to fly again in any of those low-cost carriers.
Its like boarding the unreserved compartment in RockFort express!! No seat assignments... sit wherever u want... arrgg!!

The only thing thats gonna screw a good flying experience further is letting people use their cell-phones on board!! and even thats gonna happen!!

Next time, Amtrak to California or even greyhound!!
