a mischievous propaganda

as with any disaster and the ensuing relief co-ordination operations, the current tsunami tragedy is full of controversy. I feel that all the allegations against the U.S, that it is "stingy" and "failure to alert on time", are baseless. I don't know what the critics are expecting here.

Is the U.S stingy, absolutely no. The contributions from U.S should also include the contributions made by the people who live and work here, not just the government alone. A lot of companies are matching their employee contributions. Also, how much can the government give when it finds itself mired in trillions of dollars in deficit? Its really puzzling to find that people's memories are short-lived. remember gujarat earthquake relief???

Secondly, the allegation that the U.S failed to alert nations like India, and Sri Lanka about a possible tsunami. first off, there are no sensors on the Indian ocean to detect one. All that was detected was an earthquake, with its magnitude and epi-center. This was un-precedented, and at that time the authorities were only guessing the possibilities. Moreover are we prepared for such warnings? The information about the earthquake was available to the whole world on BBC in a matter of few minutes. I don't see if there was any information denial.

lot of tabloids and newspapers continue to carry on this malicious propaganda. its enough to just raise such allegations, let alone justify it, to cause a significant damage to the relief operations.

Dey Saran,

USA has sadly fallen to the scapegoat category. Anything bad nowadays is blamed on USA. Some of them rightfully like Iraq. I don't understand what people gain by spreading disinformation

Hi Saranyan,

Happy New year to you. You are absolutely right. when i heard about this mischievious comments, I suddenly felt like nature in the form of Tsunami has really not done a justified job. The Tsunami in fact was intended to eradicate such heartless, unscrupulous elements from the earth to make this world a much cleaner, peaceful place to live on.

The image of US in the world arena has taken a bad beating post Iraq. Even though the US continues to work in a lot of developmental and relief activities in Asia and Africa, the perception that the US is using its brute force to get things done its way is something it has been unable to shake off. Maybe this Tsunami provides it that opportunity to make amends.

Personally, I think they arent stingy or anything. The world has come together more than ever before and the US is right there in the front.

dude, what about the naval assistance to sri lanka and indonesia. still you didn't get my point. count the number of dollars donated by individuals too. and they get tax relief from the US government for that, so there you go.
