any accountability at all ?

"15 Kgs of free rice every month to most of the families" ... "rice at 2 Rs/Kg" ... "free color tv for all" ... "500 Rs a month for 3 yrs for all women who gave birth to a child"

these are some of the most dirtiest elections promises being made right now in tamil nadu. and there are hordes of people that buy these promises. I wonder if there is there any agency that monitors and controls political parties from making such ridiculous promises. if at all the state govt ends up fulfilling atleast one of the above promises for a limited period of time, where are they going to get the money from? do these people know anything about fiscal responsibilty and budgets at all?

previously when DMK made such promises, they had one of their own partymen obtain a stay order from the high court against such schemes. this they used as a shield from not implementing the promised scheme. ha, what a clever and cunning move by karunanidhi. he is at it again, and I wouldn't be surprised if he succeeds in cheating the people once again.

hi saranyan, i guess it is the most old and the most ugly habit among politicians, to make and break promises. to them it is an age old custom..so far there is nothing we can do about it, except to stop voting for them. but that will hardly have any impact in this age of booth capturing. the best idea is to make all these politicians stand in a fusilade and shoot them all, one by one. Rang de basanti anyone?

Agreed. Its all a matter of getting into power. After that no one cares of implementing the stuff. Looks like its very easy to fool the public. The past election results prove this point.

I have heard of people voting for a political party because they gave free saris/dhotis to the public. Man this is the limit. May be education will change things.

It is so sadly amusing to see color tv's inside thatched houses, while the children play near stagnant pools of water.

It is not power, but rather fear of losing power that makes these parties play these cheap gimmicks.
