rest ????

so Sri Lanka finally wins a game. and it puzzles me as to why sachin tendulkar was rested for this game. agreed he is just back from a serious injury, but he never showed any signs of pain or discomfort. rather he was playing superbly. a lot of us were hoping to see the Sachin of the Old, instead we get the message that he is getting old. common guys, he is still the master blaster, its not fair at all to rest him after a mere 4 games.

We don't go for the kill.. do we? When 4 matches were won and series wrapped up, we don't mind losing the rest of the matches.

Dravid and Chappell have said that they are working towards building a good squad for the WC'07. In that respect, this was a wise move. Sachin was 'rested' and Gambhir was given a chance. Worked well, until Dhoni's unfortunate dismissal (I thought) and careless strokes from Rao and Raina.

I dont think there's a better time than this to test your bench.

pradeep, agreed that you need to give chance to others. but not in this situation where Sachin has just returned. given the form he is in, he should be playing more. you don't wanna risk a form slump.

Maybe to give chances to Youngsters since the series is already won.

I was surprised at the dropping of Sree Santh for the 2nd / 3rd games after Dravid said that he bowled well in the 1st game...and if a budding Youngster is treated like that..I don't know what to say.

Form slump? After 300 intls if he struggles to get out of bad form, he would be Sanath Jayasurya and not Sachin! :)

I am for giving Sachin the occasional break. He is getting to a point where he needs all the rest he gets to produce in big games. He is not the 19yr old we knew who could play for years without taking a break.

Hopefully by 2007 our team will be in good form AND well rested for the World Cup.

Pradeep couldnt have said any better about Sachin's form. There is nothing that i could remember as an out of form sachin. Its like an oxymoron(god finally i could use this word in a sentence :-)).

he once had a "slump" where i think he went on 8 match streak scoring in single digits.

sorry paran, i would rather save sachin from playing matches like these. it will definitley add 2 more years to his career which will be great for Team India. Also i want a fresh Tendulkar for the Test series :-)
