WANTED: Goundamani & Senthil :)

for me, humour in movies is a must, unless it is a real serious movie. since kollywood doesn't make really serious movies, I always expect some humour. well if you think 7G and thulluvadho ilamai were serious ones, then pls forgive me :)

I miss those goundamani and senthil days...many of their movies were a total laugh riot. almost every movie had them... the movies never made any sense, but atleast they were entertaining. vivek was impressive too, dunno if he is still dominant. vadivelu is good in parts, still I don't enjoy his style.

kamal is still experimenting I guess :) hope he gives us one more MMKR. until then it'll be our dear captain's serious comedy movies :) Long Live Narasimha :) :)

Narasimha va? Are you kidding me!

I used to like Senthil/koundamani. These days, vadivelu and vivek are good.

Sadly, they all become stale beyond a point. How versatile they are in comedy only determines how long they fare. Vivek is versatile but he's tried too many themes already, seems to have run out. Vadivelu isn't that creative and has hence managed fewer hits. Not sure if he can give a Winner once more!
But thankfully we atleast have something called genuine comedy in Tamil cinema. Imagine, Hindi viewers have only Johnny Lever to worship!!
Have a great, productive trip, Saranyan!

Senthil & Goundamani were the kings of comedy....IMO they didn't use vulgarity. But the current crop of Vivek and Vadivelu do use double meaning jokes in their comedy tracks.

Vivek is good in parts....but he wants him to be projected as somebody who is next only to the hero. Vadivelu is more down to earth and he has been able to strike with both the urban and the rul folks. Vadivelu's body language is quite commendable.

Vivek's comedies sheds more light on the contemporary times whereas S&G ones were a decade behind even at that time. Also if you had noticed, S&G comedies didn't have too much food for thought though we enjoyed it to the core. On the other side vivek's ones makes your mind ramble around on various issues of the society, so the obscene side of it can be pardoned to some extent.

I keep going back to even an earlier era. I think I may have mentioned this on your blog only for one of your posts but we have had a galaxy of comedians in Tamil cinema and I still think fondly of people like Thengai, VKR, TRR etc.

I feel all of them right from trr and thangavelu till vadivel are great. All of them have their peak and ebb days.Excuse me some of you there were some highly vulgar sequences right form the koundamani days.
It is a question of enjoying the best of all of them.
But credit must go to koundamani and senthil for a huge innings

Hi Saranyan,

7G and thulluvadhu were not comedy either. Yep, Goundamani and Senthil were one good combination who made any movie worth watching.

And now Vivek is good too. His comedy is more refined and not just slapping and kicking.
